Lipotris™ – Smoother Joint Movement for Osteoarthritis

Lipotris™ – smoother movement for osteoarthritis

Lipotris™ is a specialised gel that your doctor injects directly into the affected joint. The gel forms a smooth protective layer over the cartilage, allowing the joint surfaces to glide and roll past each other more easily, making movement feel more comfortable. The gel also improves the environment inside the joint from within: irritation decreases, which can reduce pain and inflammation. This effect is not short-lived — many patients notice the result of a single treatment for up to two years.

Mechanism

How does Lipotris™ work?

With osteoarthritis, the quality of the joint fluid gradually deteriorates due to the inflammatory reactions that occur in the joint. As a result, the fluid lubricates and nourishes the joint less effectively, causing further damage to the cartilage. Lipotris™ intervenes at two points.

1. Less friction = smoother movement

The gel spreads over the cartilage and forms a protective layer there. The joint glides and rolls more easily again, and the cartilage is subjected to less load with every step. That reduced load is also beneficial in the longer term: the less mechanical wear, the slower the osteoarthritis process progresses.

2. Supporting the joint from within

Lipotris™ contains hyaluronic acid with a high molecular weight. It is precisely this form that binds well to CD44, a natural receptor on the cells in your joint. Through this binding, Lipotris™ helps with:

  • reducing inflammation
  • stimulating the repair of joint cells
  • improving the quality of the joint fluid

So Lipotris™ doesn't just work mechanically as a lubricant — it also supports the biology of the joint itself.

Liposomes: from sliding to rolling

Alongside hyaluronic acid, Lipotris™ also contains liposomes — microscopically small, round fat spheres. Inside the joint they act like tiny ball bearings: the layer between the joint surfaces doesn't just slide, it also rolls. This lets the bone surfaces move past each other even more easily, with virtually no friction — up to 16% smoother than with hyaluronic acid alone.

Why does Lipotris™ last so long?

Most hyaluronic acid preparations are broken down by the body within two to six weeks. Lipotris™ is built differently and remains present in the joint for up to 100 days — more than three months.

This is thanks to the Lipotris Assembly Process (LAP™): a manufacturing method that makes the gel extra stable and protects it against rapid breakdown. Lipotris™ also binds to the CD44 protein in your joint, which plays a role in repair and in reducing inflammation. This means the gel not only stays in place longer, but also supports the joint's natural balance.

The result: patients can benefit from a single treatment course for 6 to 24 months.

Clinical data

Clinical evidence

Clinical data show that a treatment schedule of three consecutive intra-articular injections with Lipotris™, with an interval of 7 days, leads to a significant reduction in osteoarthritis-related symptoms. A clinical effect is observable from around 14 days after the first injection and continues for at least 6 months.

An extensive follow-up was carried out after 2 years to document long-term clinical outcomes. At 2 years, the WOMAC score still showed an improvement of between 10–15 points, and the VAS scale between 2–3 points. So two years after treatment, a significant improvement is still visible.

Safety

Safety and manufacturing

Lipotris™ has an excellent safety profile. This is because the product is manufactured with great care and cleanliness.

  • The hyaluronic acid is produced through controlled bacterial fermentation, a safe and widely used method.
  • The liposomes are fully synthetic, so they are not derived from animals or plants.
  • Manufacturing takes place via the Lipotris Assembly Process (LAP™), which ensures a consistent quality that is highly resistant to breakdown in the joint.
  • Thanks to this careful manufacturing process, the risk of unwanted reactions in the joint is very low.
Application

What is Lipotris™ used for?

Lipotris™ is intended for people with osteoarthritis who experience pain, stiffness, and difficulty moving. The treatment helps the joint move more smoothly, reduces pain, and improves the quality of everyday movement.

Each treatment in brief

Three injections of 2 ml, spread over multiple visits.

The injection is always administered by a medical professional.

Summary

Lipotris™ is an innovative joint injection that actively improves movement in an osteoarthritic joint. The gel forms a protective, low-friction layer, reduces friction, and supports the joint from within. Many patients experience rapid relief of pain and stiffness, better movement quality, and a long-lasting effect — all with a very high safety profile.
